Pony Chow Time!

Baby Josie and Jack

The horses are part of the backbone of the Ranch...they provide a way for people to see rugged, untamed country, they help us pack in gear to camps and hunting/fishing locations, and they are just fun to be around and enjoy!

Though you wouldn't perhaps attach the label "fun" to "chores", it IS fun to gear up and load the hay and feed the ponies. :)
Here is a little snapshot of our feeding times around the Ranch...

Jenn (me) loading the truck behind the barn...trying to avoid the death-icicles when I bend over to grab a bale!

Dana as we get ready to head down to the feeding area with supper.  She knows I am not friends with this truck's clutch, so she is wise to hang on! haha

Logan is an essential part of the feeding process--supervising the hay throwing and making sure all the horses behave! :)
There are about 9 truckloads of hay in this barn for the winter...which equals to approximately 43 tons of hay in the loft of the barn for the ponies.  All the hay is certified and is grown on the ~50 acres located on the Ranch property above the main area.

It's important to keep your balance while feeding on the haytruck...it's a bumpy ride when you hit those frozen horse muffins!

Nothing like seeing happy ponies with full bellies!

Most of the time we will spend awhile watching the horses and mules eat their meals to make sure everyone is getting their fair share and to do wellness checks.

The babies like to enjoy a nap in the sun after their meal time.  This little guy to the left is Baby Dillon...he is 6 months old right now. :)

It is anticipated that we will be feeding the stock hay through the middle of April! Of course, that will ultimately depend on when Spring decides to show up in this country. Thanks for reading! :)
